FAQ
Feel free to send additional questions about Biomedical Engineering to Jonathan Baran at jonathan.baran@devcmd.com.
Should I pursue an Masters degree or obtain an MBA?
It really just depends what you want to do. If you want to design and develop, a MS is sufficient. But if you want to get into management then an MBA is the better option.
How can I help my chances of getting an advanced degree?
If you don’t have a chance to complete real world application, I would encourage you try to get a team together that is interested in a real world application. Then you could contact DevC, MD and we would be more than willing to help you find a project. We could also help you with the project and provide guidance and whatever resources we can. You could maybe get credit at your university for the project as well.
Should I get a degree from a US institution?
I believe a degree from the US would look better if looking for a job in the US, but there are some good schools in India that have a good reputation over here (IIT) as well.
It was nice talking to you. I have came to know that Bio-Medical has good prospects in Germany as well, Is it true? And if it is between USA and GERMANY which one is having a great prospect and future in BME?
I’m not sure of the jobs prospects in Germany, I’m not familiar with the system over there.
So how is the demand of Biomedical engineers there? And what is the pay scale for a “FRESHER” ( Newly passed out BIO-MEDICAL ENGINEER)?
In regard to pay I would expect between USD $40,000 – $60,000 (Rs. 200,000 – 300,000) as a starting BME graduate. I would expect pay on the higher end of that scale with an advanced degree. The demand right now has not suffered as much as other jobs as healthcare has shown to be relatively “recession resistant”. However, that is not to say the job prospects are as good as they have been in the past. But, with good credentials, and real life-experience which can be gained through places likes DevC, MD your chances of getting a job can increase dramatically.
